Yellow Room
(2 – 3 years)
3 educators / 15 children
The yellow room educators continue to support the growing independence of each child. The care and learning experiences, along with relationships and interactions ensures each child feels secure, confident and included. The atmosphere of the yellow room is relaxed and happy as the educators and children actively work together for collaborative learning. As in the other rooms of the centre, the flexible curriculum encompasses planned and spontaneous interactions, experiences, routines and events – all to support a holistic approach to learning and development.
For many children in the yellow room this may be the first time they are cared for away from the home. Like in all of the other four centre rooms, our experienced educators work closely with each family to ensure a smooth transition between home and care.

Leah, Song, Jenny & Annie
Leah joined Carina Heights Child Care & Development in 2004. Before this she worked as a teachers' aide in the state school system for four years. Initially joining Carina Heights as a float (working between rooms), her skills and professionalism were recognised when she was asked to take on the yellow room lead educator role in 2008, where she remained until 2015 before moving to the green room. 2016 sees Leah move to the red room as she studies her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. Leah holds both a Diploma and Certificate 3 in Children's Services and a Certified Supervisor certificate. She enjoys this age group and believes one of her roles is to ensure the children are happy and healthy. Leah wants the children to feel comfortable and a sense of belonging in the room; whilst encouraging the children to explore the environment and provide lots of interesting play based activities. As a mother herself, Leah is always mindful of how important the task of caring for someone else's children really is. She is dedicated to providing quality care for the children in her room.
Songei (Song) born in South Korea, joined our sister centre Prior Street Child Care and Development in August 2015. After completing a Diploma in Children's Services Song joined Carina Heights Child Care and Development in 2017. Song has a passion for traveling and learning new cultures. Sharing her experiences with children is important to her, as she believes that children learn to interact through others, by relating to our various emotions and feelings. Presenting empathy, respect and a caring attitude is something Song prides herself in. As Song has a passion for teaching, she also holds a Diploma of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Canda) and a Secondary Teacher Certificate in Computer and information Engineering (South Korea)
Jenny (Monday & Tuesday) started at CHCCD in 2011 while doing work experience as part of studying a Cert 3 in Children’s Services. After having her 2nd premature baby, she continued her studies and work experience until 2012 when Jenny become a qualified and valued member of our team. She has since completed her Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care. Looking after children in all rooms and age groups she is very caring, nurturing, motivated and has great time management skills. Jenny has completed a Statement of Attainment for part of a Cert 3 in Education Support Qualification. She has two children, a son in primary and a daughter starting high school. Her son was born with a heart defect and she understands the importance of every single child’s innocence, health, growth and development. When not working at the centre she is a qualified, practising Beauty Therapist since 1996, where again her caring and nurturing nature excels.
Annie (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday) is from Ireland where she holds a Diploma in Childcare and a Certificate for Classroom Assistants. She worked in the child care sector for three years in Ireland before relocating to Australia in 2008 where she then worked with a relief staff agency for two years. During these two years with the agency she gained valuable experience and knowledge of the child care sector in Australia. Annie then joined the Carina Heights Child Care & Development team in 2010 where she began her time in our blue room as an assistant. She moved over to our busy red room in January 2011 where she completed a Certificate 3 in Children's Services before making the change to our green room in 2015 & then returning to the blue room in 2016. Annie has two little boys, who both also attend the centre, so as a mum herself she understands how precious each child is. She enjoys playing an important and active role in children’s learning.
